Gently discover the great Dutch sailing areas. You'll sail around the IJsselmeer, the Frisian Lakes and the Wadden Sea (UNESCO World Heritage) on the Elizabeth.

Texel

With this beautiful holiday trip aboard clipper Elizabeth you will discover the best of the beautiful and water-rich Dutch provinces of North Holland and Friesland. From the water you can enjoy flat polder landscapes, historic windmills, a UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea, hidden villages on the edges of the Frisian lakes and the many picturesque harbor towns along the coast of the IJsselmeer. A very varied and extremely unique journey!

Itinerary:

Day 1 - Amsterdam
From 18:00 you can embark on board the spacious and comfortable clipper Elizabeth. On board you will meet the hospitable crew and your fellow travelers. After dinner you have the evening the opportunity to take a walk or enjoy the atmosphere of our capital Amsterdam.

Day 2 - Alkmaar
After breakfast, the lines are released and we leave Amsterdam. The Elizabeth sails the traditional cheese route through the fascinating polders that have been drained by the Dutch over the centuries. Along the way you will see the agricultural activity of North Holland, flat polders and typical Dutch windmills. In the evening we are in the cheese town of Alkmaar, where you can enjoy the canals, warehouses and the old cheese market.

Day 3 - Texel
The Elizabeth sails from Alkmaar to the North Holland Wadden Island of Texel. On Texel you have the opportunity to rent bicycles and explore the island. The dunes and deep beaches of Texel are breathtaking!

Day 4 - Terschelling
The Elizabeth sails from Texel across the unique Wadden Sea nature reserve to Terschelling. With a little luck you will see seals sunbathing on a sandbar along the way! The arrival on Terschelling is an experience in itself. The Elizabeth moors in the bustling harbor of the village of West, with its striking square lighthouse. On Terschelling you can expect beautiful villages, extensive dunes and lots of nature. Take a walk through West-Terschelling, or on the Green Beach. Or rent a bicycle and watch the sun go down on the Boschplaat on the eastern part of the island or on the North Sea beach.

Day 5 - Makkum
Today the Elizabeth sails back to the IJsselmeer. At Kornwerderzand the ship enters the lock and returns to fresh water. The Elizabeth sails across the IJsselmeer to Makkum, a trip of about an hour. Makkum is a fishing and farming village, founded in the 10th century. In the Middle Ages, the village became world famous for its Makkum pottery. Even today, the pottery from Makkum is still popular and Koninklijke Tichelaar makes handmade traditional Makkum pottery. Nowadays Makkum is mainly a water sports resort.

Day 6 - Heeg
The Elizabeth continues via the IJsselmeer to Stavoren and then continues her journey across the Frisian lakes: the Morra, the Fluessen and the Heegermeer. Sailing is cultural heritage in Friesland. You will be amazed at the large number of sailing boats on the lakes: from large to small! The lakes are surrounded by extensive green meadows with cows, horses and sheep. The day ends in Heeg, a pleasant Frisian village on the edge of the Heegermeer.

Day 7 - Enkhuizen
The Elizabeth sails from Heeg via Stavoren to the IJsselmeer. From there we set course for the old Zuiderzee town of Enkhuizen. Once you have arrived here, you have ample opportunity to explore the old town of Enkhuizen.

Day 8 - Amsterdam
The Elizabeth sails back across the IJsselmeer to the capital Amsterdam. The route takes you along the famous fortress island of Pampus and the Horse of Marken. Elizabeth moors in Amsterdam for a last night.

Day 9 - Amsterdam
After breakfast you can say goodbye to the crew and your fellow travelers. Your holiday is over, but the unique memory remains!

The daily programm depends on the wind- and weatherconditions. The captain will consult the guests and determines the planning. There's a little adventure involved!
